The hottest colour trend for 2018 has to be blush pink and soft lilac tones – the combination is simply irresistible.

How dreamy is this look from Klaylife (pictured above)? Their 'Romantic Swag' pendant light (available from Hamptons At Home) adds such an elegance in the bedroom (or any room really). I'm just loving this bedroom look, and that 'Arch' wallpaper from These Walls is pretty special too! More of this inspiring colour combo below.

New Mudcloth Cushions in our store!

instaEditedZIDS1491-HDR.jpg

The Adore online store has four new Mudcloth cushions – with only limited quantities you’ll want to snap some up quick-sticks!

I became obsessed with Mudcloth on my recent trip to California, it was literally everywhere – at one of the hotels we stayed at, a variety of shops, even restaurants! So naturally when I came across this beautiful mudcloth in the US, I decided to buy a few metres and haul it back with me to make some cushions for the Adore online shop (and maybe a few for myself too!). I just adore the way they look on my sofa. If you love them too, they’re priced from $60-$65 each – this is for the cushion cover only - you’ll need to purchase your own inserts – Spotlight or Innergreen (online store) are great places to find affordably priced inserts.

If you’re not familiar with it, African mudcloth is a traditional Malian fabric that is dyed with fermented mud and plant dyes and then hand sewn in strips.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR MUDCLOTH CUSHION
Mudcloth can be washed in cold water. We recommend using a gentle soap and hand-washing, then airing out to dry flat on a clothesline (don’t tumble dry).

The Concrete Interiors Trend

Build: Jeff Worthing

Build: Jeff Worthing

It’s edgy, industrial and so hot right now – the concrete interiors trend is here to stay. From concrete sinks to cement tiles, concrete is popping up everywhere in interiors.

CONCRETE IN THE KITCHEN

Concrete looks right at home in the kitchen, when sealed properly it can be a highly functional and durable surface to work on. The Concrete Nation team handcrafted the bespoke kitchen island bench top and splash back pictured above. We adore this luxe, moody kitchen which incorporates simple, dark cabinetry and polished concrete with reclaimed solid Blackbutt timber paneling to add warmth. Below is another bench top created by Concrete Nation. We’re also a fan of the concrete panels on the walls and the polished concrete floor – the look is very contemporary with a hint of industrial flavour.

We’re crushing hard on this elegant kitchen below – the perfect mix of marble, concrete and white cabinetry. Put this kitchen by Madeleine Blanchfield on our future dream house wish list!

OUR HOT TIP

I just adore everything about this kitchen, from the concrete floors through to the exposed beams on the ceiling – it's utter industrial perfection. And whilst there is a lot of concrete in the space, it doesn't feel heavy or cold. The simple design trick? Balance with a whole lot of white and timber cabinetry!

CONCRETE IN THE BATHROOM

Concrete sinks are one of the biggest trends to emerge in bathrooms over the past couple of years. And for good reason – the humble white porcelain sink has become a bit ho-hum. Adding a touch of concrete to your bathroom can add a slight industrial edge or a pop of colour if you opt for something like these Nood Co. bowl basins (pictured above) in Nat from Norsu Interiors’ home. If something more neutral is your style perhaps Nood Co.’s box basin in a mid grey tone will be more up your alley (pictured below).

Concrete Nation also have some amazing bathroom sink options – their Pod Basin (pictured above) looks great pictured here with exposed plumbing – this type of setup would work well in a powder room. If you’re feeling more courageous – what about a pink sink? Yep Concrete Nation also offer coloured sinks in nine on-trend colours. Their dusty pink Lux Basin is pictured below in the home of Kayla Boyd (and featured in our Escape edition). The concrete benchtop is also courtesy of Concrete Nation – gorgeous right?! They even offer concrete baths (pictured bottom) – their Oasis Bath is pretty special.

PINK IS BACK!

The colour pink is back in a huge way, dubbed 'Millennial Pink', the blush pink shade is popping up everywhere, from painted walls, to soft furnishings and yes, even in bathrooms. Go bold with pink tiles, or for a safer pop of colour, opt for a pink concrete sink. If you tire of the colour in a few years, simply replace (much cheaper than replacing tiles!).

CONCRETE FURNITURE + HOMEWARES

If a bathroom or kitchen renovation isn’t on the cards any time soon, and you want a bit of concrete in your life – there’s a whole array of concrete homewares and furniture. It’s super popular at the moment, you’ll find almost everything with a splash of concrete - from lighting, to tables, to pots. The Sculpt range of pendant lights from Beacon Lighting (pictured above) have a lovely Scandi vibe. Cluster together over a dining table or use individually in a bedroom for subtle lighting.

HarpersProject_01.jpg

Harpers Project also make a super luxe range of furniture with the addition of concrete. I can’t get enough of their dining table options – their Rectangle Concrete Dining Table (pictured above) is supported by a beautiful and strong solid timber frame. Again the pairing of concrete with timber just works so well. And pictured to the right, Harpers Project’s round Concrete Cylinder Dining Table features an American Oak top supported by a sturdy concrete base.

Concrete also looks amazing with fresh greenery – so when we spied this pair of Tower pots from Zakkia (pictured below) we had to share with you! These are actually made from fibre glass, yet they look like concrete. They are lightweight so you’ll easily be able to move these around your home.

Current Mood: California Holiday

We might be half way through Winter, but we are dreaming of a summer
vacay! To get you prepped, we look at Louvelle and Ephemera’s new
Spring collections – both photographed in sunny California.

LOUVELLE

First up, let’s escape to Palm Springs with Louvelle’s new collection of shower turbans, towel wraps, headscarves and eye masks. The campaign was shot at an historic estate in Palm Springs – evoking old Hollywood glamour vibes. In fact the photography style reminds us of Slim Aarons – it feels like you’re stepping back in time, and we simply cannot get enough of the retro holiday vibes. Our favourite item from the new range? Their new towel wraps (similar in style to their shower turbans) minimise blow dry time to protect hair from heat damage. The luxury microfibre is gentle on delicate hair fibres, to minimise friction and frizz. Winning!

EPHEMERA

Ephemera’s new collection has me craving a summer vacation. The designs have a slight retro vibe, and I’m loving those high waisted pants paired with the tie front bandeau. Photographed at the Avalon Hotel in Beverly Hills, it’s the perfect backdrop to the colours and patterns in the range. Watch the video below – it takes me back to my California trip earlier this year. Sigh.

Gosh Byron Bay really does seem to be the 'it' location for the best designed accommodation, although they usually come with a not so nice price tag! But if you’re in a larger group, sharing this gorgeous cottage might be for you – it has 3 bedrooms that sleep a maximum of 8 adult guests (or up to 10 for families). Newly renovated this home is only a short stroll to Byron town. Cleverly designed to capture both winter sun and cooling summer breezes, it’s surrounded by lush tropical gardens, plunge pool, wrap around decks and outdoor bath. Ahh, sounds like bliss.

The house has fully ducted air conditioning throughout as well as a fireplace and outdoor heater for the winter months. A stand-out feature of the property is its huge wrap around deck and outdoor entertaining area featuring oversized built in bench seating, multiple lounges, hanging chairs, a ten-seater outdoor dining table, plus an outdoor bath tub, shower and plunge pool. If you’re planning a winter vacay, there’s even an IXL Fresco Auora outdoor heater to ensure that guests can enjoy the beautiful year-round Byron Bay climate. I think I may need one of these should I move to Toowoomba!

Store Profile: Hass & Co Botanics

You don’t need a green thumb to create a stylish indoor garden, thanks to Perth-based Hass & Co.

Words Beth Greshwalk

Nothing breathes life into an abode like a lush indoor garden. But finding the best plants and ‘plantwares’ to complement our interiors – not to mention the all-important greenery upkeep – can feel a bit daunting. So, it’s always refreshing to discover retailers like Hass & Co. Botanics, Perth’s divine destination for houseplants, accessories and personalised plant selection and styling guidance.

Hass & Co. was founded in 2017 by Cal Hassall and Casey O’Callahan, proud owners of an indoor garden who’d been yearning for more botanical décor choices than Perth had to offer. Harnessing Casey’s passion for nature and the couple’s shared retail experience, “we decided to put our backgrounds to good use, with the goal of making (plantware) options more accessible,” explains Casey.

hassandco_DSC5932.jpg
170318 Hass & Co -055_preview.jpeg
hassandco_DSC7678.jpg

After opening their eye-catching boutique on Leederville’s equally vibrant Oxford Street, the pair soon realised their customers were not only seekers of quality Australian accessories unseen at larger department stores, but also those without green thumbs requiring easy-care foliage for their indoor gardens.

The solution?

“We carefully hand-select hardy tropical varieties of plants, because their preferred environment is easy to replicate at home,” says Casey. “We select ‘shade-grown’ plants, meaning they’re already seasoned to be grown in an indoor environment.”

hassandco_DSC5397.jpg
hassandco_DSC5801.jpg

The most popular of such low-maintenance plants include the versatile devil’s ivy – “Grow it long and let it trail down, or take a cutting and grow it in water,” recommends Casey – along with calathea varieties like the pink-striped ornata: “These beauties love warmth and humidity. A bathroom with natural light is the perfect location.”

hassandco_DSC7567.jpg
hassandco_DSC1073.jpg

As for the store’s selection of homegrown and international plantwares, clientele are loving locally made, steel plant hangers and stands by Still Life: “Their ladder stand is a personal favourite,” adds Casey. Other bestsellers include moss balls created by Perth-based Leaf & Moss.

And when it comes to styling stimuli, look no further than Hass & Co. displays. “They’re refreshed regularly, showcasing different ways to play with colour and texture to achieve an overall look,” says Casey. “We encourage customers to mix and match products until they find a combination that gets them excited.”

Visit Hass & Co Botanics at Suite 3a/250 Oxford St, Leederville, Perth WA.
