Bathroom Trend: Timber Vanities

Kyal and Kara’s Angourie vanity

The hottest trend in bathrooms has to be timber vanities. Bathrooms can often feel quite clinical – the timeless appeal and warmth of timber really helps to create a friendly, welcoming space. Here’s three companies that make beautiful handcrafted timber vanities.

1 KYAL AND KARA FOR
LOUGHLIN FURNITURE

blog_2_Kyal_and_Kara_Loughlin_Furniture_Portrait.jpg

The Super Ks (Kyal and Kara) never cease to inspire us – this time it’s their collaboration with Loughlin Furniture that has us swooning.

Photography: Ben Cole

For Kyal and Kara’s bathroom range they wanted to create something that was unique and timeless, paired with impeccable quality and craftmanship. Having worked with Rob Loughlin of Loughlin Furniture for most of their renovation projects, it was a no-brainer that Kyal and Kara teamed up with them to create two vanity designs Airlie and Angourie, along with matching Alura mirrors (all pictured).

The raw natural beauty of the American Oak will ensure your vanity is the hero of any bathroom. Other details we love – the bespoke timber finger pulls and shaker style end panels. Shop the range by clicking here.

2 ZUSTER FOR REECE

High end furniture label Zuster has teamed up with Reece to create their new Issy Halo range – and it does not disappoint. Striking and bold, this is the vanity for lovers of contemporary design.

Inspired by fashion and 3D movement of fabric pleats, the Issy Halo by Zuster furniture range is engineered to stand out – it’s certainly got our attention! We just adore the pleated timber panelling, soft close doors, Corian benchtop and matching round handles. Made from American Oak and available in a range of colours (we’re digging the Charcoal Oak pictured above – very moody), the suite has a thoroughly contemporary, chic feel. 3 RAW SUNSHINE COAST

RAW Sunshine Coast make beautiful handcrafted furniture, and now also vanities! Here’s a look at some of their beautiful vanity designs.

Photography: Venita Wilson Photography

Their whole aesthetic is based on understated beauty. Inspired by the simplicity and functionality of Scandinavian design, the clean lines of their Noosa vanity (pictured above and below) allow the timber to be the hero and deep drawers allow for ample storage. We also adore their Willow timber bathroom vanity (pictured very top) – with its traditional-meets-modern design and the modern curvaceous design of the North Shore bathroom vanity (pictured very bottom).

Each of their vanities are available in Blackbutt or American White Oak and made in Maroochydore by RAW Sunshine Coast’s expert team of furniture makers and joiners. They also can custom make something to suit your design needs. Shop the range by clicking here.

ART PRINTS ROUNDUP

Since launching our new Adore Shopping site, we’ve found the second most searched item is art prints. So today we’ve rounded up some gorgeous art prints to brighten your walls.

BLUE AND GREEN PRINTS

Who said blue and green should never be seen together? Mother nature’s perfect colour duo – greens and blues – are great for creating a calming effect. We could dive straight into this Earth 014 print by Stewart Leishman (pictured above) available from Barnaby Lane. There’s something so alluring about ocean prints.

Another photographer who captures the beauty of the sea  is Kara Rosenlund. Her prints are so beautiful – owning a couple of her prints in my own home, I can attest to their quality and vibrance of colour. Her Diver print pictured opposite was taken at Sydney’s infamous Bondi Icebergs, I just love how she’s captured that laidback Australian beach lifestyle in one single shot.

Urban Road are also a great source for beautiful art prints in a variety of styles. Their latest collaboration with Shaynna Blaze is so dreamy – there’s lots of great aerial photography in this collection – including their Field of Dreams print pictured below.

SUNSET COLOURS PRINTS

CLARE+NICOLSON+SUNRISE+PRINT.jpg

The hottest colour trend going around at the moment are warm colours – think sunset hues in pinks, corals, tangerines, and hints of dusty lilac. If you’re after a great affordably priced option try H&G Designs - their Cast and Sundance prints (pictured above) look great hanging together as a pair.

UK artist Clare Nicolson creates bold and graphic digital artworks that have a whimsical nature. Pictured opposite is her Sunrise print. Her range is also very affordably priced – however are only available in A4 and A3 size. These would work great as a small artwork styled on a shelf, or used as part of a larger gallery wall with a mix of artworks.

Barnaby Lane has recently become my go-to-source for photographic prints. Their carefully curated range includes renowned photographers such as Derek Swalwell, Stewart Leishman, Marija Ivkovic and Anna Thomas. Pictured below is Derek Swalwell’s Griffith Park 2 print available through Barnaby Lane. Loving those sunny LA vibes!

BLACK & WHITE PRINTS

You can’t beat a black and white art print. Simple, classic, and a great option for monochromatic interiors – there’s a certain sophistication when it comes to black and white art works. Thankfully there’s no shortage of art prints out there, we live in an age where we are spoilt for choice with affordably priced prints.

Morning Surf print from The White Bungalow pictured above, is one of my favourite beach photographic prints. I love the styling of this piece too – sometimes an artwork doesn’t have to be hanging on the wall – this one works just as well leaning against the wall and positioned on a low sideboard.

Photography: Annette O'Brien  /  Styling: Alana Langan  /  Interior design: Michelle Hart, Bask Interiors

Another favourite of mine is Carla Fletcher’s Bliss limited edition print pictured above – how can you resist a cute, cuddly koala! I think this piece would also work well in a nursery – so super sweet.

MANDY MOORE'S MID-CENTURY HOME

Actress and singer Mandy Moore recently renovated her mid-century home in Pasadena, and the results? A stunning home that shines from the inside out.

Without sounding stalker-ish, I’m completely obsessed with Mandy Moore’s mid-century home! Ooh, I’ve got a crush on you... the home that is! Originally built in 1950 by mid-century modernist Harold B Zook, the home took an  unfortunate renovation in the 1990s which completely messed with the home’s original mid-century integrity. Interior architect Emily Farnham came to the rescue with the aide of interior designer Sarah Sherman Samuel and well, the restults speak for themselves – a breakthtaking home high atop a Pasadena hill that takes in the sweeping vista of the San Gabriel mountains and valley. When can I move in? Check out the video below too for the tour!

Looking for a new rug? It can be tricky selecting the perfect one – we’ve rounded up a few of our favourites for the living room, bedroom and kids’ rooms. Plus a few handy hints for what to be looking for.

I love a good fluffy wool rug – they’re so soft underfoot so are a great option for living rooms. This Kasbah rug from West Elm (pictured above) is just one example of their great range of Morrocan-inspired wool rugs – I have this one in my own living room and love it!

If super neutral is your thing, yet you want some subtle pattern and texture, the Cesar rug from Tribe Home (pictured at the very top of blog post) is a superb option. I can attest to their quality too, owning one of their rugs in my own home. A word of warning – a white rug in a high-traffic zone such as a living room won’t work for everyone - this rug would also be a great option for a low-traffic room such as a bedroom.

Amigos De Hoy have a delightful range of boho-inspired rugs. Their Hawkwind rug pictured opposite is at a great price point too - the 2 x 3m size is only $499. In my opinion you wouldn’t want to go much smaller than a 2 x 3m rug in a living room – bigger is usually always better for this zone.

If you’re feeling more confident with colour, how about this amazing Popsycle rug from Jardan (pictured below)! Dreamy...

BEDROOM RUGS

When it comes to selecting a rug for the bedroom think about going for something more textured and soft. Because the bedroom is a low-traffic zone, you can go for thicker, plusher and even lighter colours because there’s not as much foot traffic. Plus there’s nothing nicer than getting out of bed in the morning and feeling the softness underfoot.

I adore the colours and fringe tassels on this vintage inspired Tembo cotton rug from Amigos De Hoy (pictured above).

In terms of rug placement, Jonno Rodd from Hunting For George suggests for a more luxurious look, to place a large rug underneath the bed with a generous amount visible at the foot and sides. “Keep bedside tables off the rug to highlight the floor and enhance the feeling of space. We recommend something with a beautifully soft texture like the Armadillo&Co Sierra Weave, or something from the latest hand-woven collection, the Latitude Collection,” says Jonno.

KIDS ROOM RUGS

a_co_earthcollection_sierraweave_fairyfloss_insitu1.1468034619.jpg

When it comes to deciding on a rug for your child’s room, think about their age and needs. A nursery or room for a young toddler might benefit from a softer, thicker rug like this Dreamweaver wool rug from Granite Lane (pictured above).

Jonno Rodd from Hunting For George suggests that smaller round rugs work well in nurseries under or next to cribs to make smaller spaces feel intimate and playful. “The Sierra Weave range (pictured opposite) from Armadillo&Co has some beautifully soft pastels as well as neutral colour ways,” suggests Jonno. “It also happens to be the softest rug going around, perfect for the little ones to sit and play for hours on end.”

West Elm also have a new range of nursery rugs in collaboration with Pottery Barn. Their Loop rug (pictured below) is so plush and I just love the subtlety in its design.

Dutch Warehouse recently collaborated with stylist Bek Halliday to create this beautiful, handmade Fawn Dot rug (pictured above). Inspired by Bek’s style and use of natural colours, the rugs work perfectly in nurseries, playrooms or even in living rooms. The rugs are super soft and are perfect for scandi boho interiors.
