Oak Ridge Living, Dining + Patio Makeover

Throw and cushion from Provincial Home Living

Our final room reveal for Oak Ridge is the living, dining and outdoor patio space. Inside, new flooring and a fresh coat of paint has given this room a complete facelift, whilst outside, a new outdoor setting has given the space purpose.

WINDOW COVERINGS

I chose the Dartmouth Oatmeal electric roman blind from Tuiss Blinds Online for the above window to tie in with our kitchen. The stripe adds a bit of pattern to the room and looks classic in style.

To make the most of our mountain views, we did have to cut down a number of trees including plenty of overgrown banana trees that were blocking the view out the window. Now the trees that remain frame the view, rather than block it. For this particular window (below) I’ve chosen a simple electric roller blind (in Titan Alabaster) from Tuiss Blinds Online. See how it pretty much disappears against the architrave? That’s exactly what I was wanting - I didn’t want anything to detract from our gorgeous view. But it gets extreme sun on this window in the afternoon, so to keep the heat out, these blinds do wonders!

BEFORE

PAINT

We gave this room an entire repaint including the ceiling – everything is now painted in Tint Paint ‘So Fresh & So Clean’ - my favourite white from Tint. It was a mission painting over that dark charcoal wall, but we got there in the end. I’m thankful that Tint’s paint is so thick, it has great coverage so it’s ideal if you’re wanting to paint over darker colours.

FLOORING

One of the biggest transformations for our living room space was the new flooring – we replaced the old musty carpet with hybrid flooring and it’s been so nice and easy to clean. It looks great, adds warmth to the room, and is practical for us as it is holiday accommodation. We have installed the Aspen ‘Tassie Oak’ hybrid flooring from Carpet Court and I highly recommend it!

We’ve layered a rug over our flooring for a bit of softness. This is the ‘Joline’ rug from Miss Amara, it’s made of wool, so it’s lovely and soft underfoot. And the perfect beige colour. So neutral and goes with everything in our living space.

FURNISHINGS

For all of our furnishings I’ve chosen pieces with a timeless look. Our ‘Hampton’ sofa from Loungelovers is a 4-seater and quite comfy. It’s an oatmeal colour and the removable covers can actually be taken off and washed which is super practical for our holiday home. I’ve paired with the ‘Turner’ coffee table also from Loungelovers, the oak-look melamine finish ties in beautifully with our flooring and kitchen island.

Our ‘Provincial’ oak dining table and ‘Provincial’ cross back dining chairs are both from Early Settler. I searched for ages for a 2-seater dining table with a classic look, so I was thrilled when I found this one! The nook we have for our dining space is only small - so this table fit perfectly. I love that both the table and chairs have a vintage look and totally go with our farmhouse vibes.

PATIO

The patio was pretty much a blank canvas – it’s a very large deck and we needed something substantial looking to fill it. As our accommodation only caters for up to two guests, I decided an outdoor sofa and coffee tables would be the best option for this space. Somewhere for guests to sit, relax and take in the mountain views. I’ve chosen the Sanctuary 4 seater outdoor modular sofa from Early Settler as it’s a really decent size. It also can be configured a little differently to how we’ve photographed it here to be more of an L-shape. Or you could even use the ottoman as a coffee table in front of the sofa. I love the versatility of this piece!

As it’s quite a large sofa, I thought it would be a good idea to pair with two coffee tables in varying heights. I’ve chosen the Tylden coffee tables in both the 60cm and 80cm size. They look so good together and work well with the proportions of the outdoor sofa.

For an extra layer I’ve styled the space with the Jura outdoor rug (in beige and ivory check) from Miss Amara. It’s machine washable (although you do need to ensure your washing machine is large enough for the size of rug). Ours is the 3m x 4m size so we would need to go to a laundromat to wash it. That being said, the very first guests that used the rug walked all over it with muddy shoes, and I was able to spot clean it pretty easily, so that’s a relief!
