Oak Ridge Cottage Bathroom Renovation
For the past four months we’ve been busy with the renovation of our one bedroom cottage (located next door to our main house). Here’s a look at the newly renovated bathroom.

VANITY + BASIN
For this bathroom renovation I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone and do something completely different to what I’ve done in the past. For a farmhouse feel I wanted to go for a more traditional style vanity - but one that still had a bit of a modern edge, and the ‘Harper’ freestanding vanity from ADP ticked both of those boxes. I’ve selected the 1200mm size in the Estella Oak finish. Isn’t it just stunning?! I love the ribbed panel front. Our benchtop is the 90mm ‘Blossoming’ which is just one of the many stone options available through ADP. I wanted an elegant basin to complement the vanity and chose the ‘Marilyn’ matte white basin with a brushed brass plug. I’m honestly so obsessed with this vanity!
UNDERFLOOR HEATING
I’ve always wanted underfloor heating in one of my bathroom renovations, so I have to say I was pretty excited to be installing it in this one. And even though our cottage will be used as an airbnb, who says I can’t use it when guests aren’t staying? We’ve installed Thermonet’s underfloor heating (available from Tile Cloud) in here. This is something that needs to be installed by an electrician, and done at roughing-in stage. This particular one gets installed under the concrete screed. It really does work so well to heat up the floor. There is a remote control unit which you can select the temperature of your choice. It takes about an hour for it to fully heat up and it’s absolute bliss in the winter. I know our guests will just love this feature as Maleny does get super chilly!

TAPWARE + ACCESSORIES
This is the third bathroom I’ve used Yabby tapware and it really is the best! It’s great quality and the colour of the tapware and the matching accessories are spot on. We’ve gone for the brushed brass for this bathroom, to give it a touch of luxe, it looks so lovely against the white wall tiles and green VJ panelling. In the shower we’ve used the Combination shower and paired it with the ‘Melbourne’ wall mixer. On the vanity wall we’ve used the ‘Melbourne’ wall spout with the ‘Melbourne’ wall mixer for an elegant look.
Yabby have recently expanded their product range and you’ll find pretty much everything you need for the bathroom - even mirrors. Ours is the rectangle mirror in brushed brass. The other accessories we chose from Yabby include ‘Sydney’ robe hooks, ‘Melbourne’ towel rail, ‘Melbourne’ hand towel holder, and ‘Melbourne’ toilet roll holder. Even the toilet is from Yabby! This is the curved back to wall toilet suite.
BEFORE
The cabinetry in the bathroom was pretty dated looking and as you can see it was starting to yellow from age. By removing the existing vanity and linen closet, we were able to fit a larger 1200mm size vanity in that space. As this will be an airbnb, the need for a linen closet wasn’t necessary.
TILES
I wanted a classic looking colour palette in our bathroom and decided on a combination of black and white tiles. For the floor I’ve selected the ‘Avoca’ encaustic-look tile from Tile Cloud. It has a classic look and I think it works well with the modern farmhouse feel I was trying to achieve. On the vanity wall I’ve used the ‘Newport’ matte white subway tile from Tile Cloud, laid in a traditional brick bond pattern. Again, I’ve chosen this pattern and tile for its timeless look. And in the shower I’ve used the same ‘Newport’ tile but this time laid in a herringbone pattern. on the opposite wall in the shower I’ve chosen the Brushgrove matte white tile. Not every wall in a bathroom has to be a feature and this is my go-to tile for keeping costs down plus it’s just super neutral.
Walls painted in ‘So Fresh & So Clean’ and custom green colour from Tint Paint
PAINT
I wanted to create a real impact in this bathroom and echo the greenery from outside, inside. I took a very long time deciding on the right shade of green for this room and ended up landing on the colour Dulux ‘Lush Hosta’ which Tint Paint custom made up for me. Fun fact - Tint can colour match any paint brand’s colours. And can even colour match anything you want, for example – a tile, a piece of fabric, whatever it might be, the Tint Paint can help you out.
For the upper walls, ceiling and architraves I’ve used Tint Paint’s ‘So Fresh & So Clean’. I’ve used it in my last home and it’s a great white that doesn’t throw any other colour undertones. The paint is nice and thick too, so it provides excellent coverage.
WINDOW COVERINGS
I really deliberated over what to choose for our window coverings in the bathroom. I knew I wanted something classic looking, and so these plantation shutters from Tuiss Blinds Online seemed like a good choice for our large window behind the toilet. This window was actually a frosted glass previously, and I had it reglazed to clear class as privacy is a non-issue for that particular window (which just looks out to trees) and now lets so much more natural light into the bathroom.
On our fixed window in the bathroom, I selected an electric roller blind (in Titan Alabaster). This particular fabric is a polyester and is suitable for use in bathrooms. To charge you simply plug in the supplied charging cord to a powerpoint and it charges up. It’s operated on a remote control and you can also set it up on the Tuiss app and control the blinds through that as well. As this will be an Airbnb the remote control is perfect for us.

DOOR
‘The Burleigh’ door from Front Porch Doors really was the perfect match for our classic-style bathroom. The shaker profile is a great fit for farmhouse or coastal style interiors and was the obvious choice for our bathroom. I’m so in love with it, plus it’s a solid door, so it’s nice and heavy, and feels like good quality too. As we have a 50mm step up into our bathroom we had our carpenter cut this door down to size.
It’s paired with Yabby’s ‘Melbourne’ door handle in brushed brass to match all of the other Yabby tapware throughout the bathroom.
