As the store owner of The White Bungalow and White Havana, Chris Curro naturally celebrated her 40th birthday in style. The result is a dreamy floral wonderland. We caught up with Chris to get all the details on her party.
Tell us a little about the theme of your birthday party and that gorgeous venue you held it in.
I wanted to create a beautiful “boho grazing luncheon” that included two of my most favourite things – flowers and my friends! As my life has been so busy this year, I opted for a small and intimate affair that really allowed my guests and I to enjoy the afternoon together. I had been on the hunt for a venue for quite some time and had almost given up when I stumbled across Soho Yoga studio in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane. It had everything I was looking for, stunning pitched roof with beautiful exposed beams and a white canvas filled with an abundance of natural lighting. It was the perfect backdrop for event.

The flowers look incredible! What kind of varieties did you have throughout the arrangements?
The main decorating element we used for the event were flowers, and I wanted to transform the space into something totally unexpected for when my guests entered. The visual impact was amazing, especially our hanging basket installation which was dripping in lush foliage including Amaranthus and Jasmine. To stay in line with the “boho luncheon theme” I opted for rich and exotic colour tones but the styling and design of the table arrangements were soft and flowing to create a relaxed and almost whimsical feel. One of my favorite features was the floral installation on the table that included a beautiful mix of Cottage Roses, Cymbidium Orhids, Freesias, Tulips, Alstroemeria, Poppies, Hellebores and Jasmine.
Can you give us a little run-down of the food and drinks you had at the party?
We kept the food relatively simple with our signature gourmet cheese boards. These have become quite a specialty of ours as we create them for our workshops and VIP events held in store. The selection included brie, camembert, cheddar and bue cheese paired with prosciutto, water crackers, fresh pomegranate and figs drizzled with honey. Our guests were treated with Moet & Chandon Rose champagne along with a delicious mimosa punch garnished with fresh berries and mint. The birthday cake was beautifully created by our styling team with yummy blueberry and lemon flavoured donuts from Nodo. Another favourite touch we used were custom quoted cookies from Sweet Mickie which really added a personal touch to the day and was a special treat for my guests to take home.
