We interview one half of Mustard, Rebecca Stern and chat about their trendy range of lockers – a surprisingly versatile piece of furniture that can be used in almost every room of the house.

1. How did Mustard come to be?
Mustard was founded by myself and my sister Jess we always wanted to start a business together and decided that living on opposite sides of the world wouldn’t stop us. Seven years after I moved from London to Newcastle, Jess came over to meet my new baby. It was then, while walking along the beach, that the spark of an idea was born. I have always had a thing for lockers and other rusty old industrial pieces of furniture and Jess had a career in buying, so the idea became a plan and a plan became a business within a year.

The product range is defined by trend led colours but the lockers themselves are excitingly versatile. Whether they are in a hallway, kids room or stylish design studio, The Skinny and The Shorty are designed to be both beautiful and functional.

“Mustard is now sold in 6 countries and is a truly international small business so we get to see each other a lot more often!”

2. Tell us a little about your lockers and what people may not know about them.
The lockers are made of steel which means they are magnetic so you can use it as a magnetic notice board. Inside you’ll find our little handy hooks on the door to hang a mirror, headphones or a necklace. Then on the back is a hole so you can thread through your cables and chargers to keep them all tidy. My favourite little detail has to be the little matching keyring that comes with each one, it’s the small touches that make them feel special.

mustardapril438.jpg

3. Lockers are so versatile – what rooms have you seen them end up in customer’s homes?
We love how versatile they are and that they can be used in different spaces in homes, work places or even pilates studios and hotels! A few Skinnies lined up make fantastic storage for all the kids school stuff or as a low key, flexible wardrobe for kids or adults. It’s been exciting to see our customers use them as pantries for extra storage in the kitchen and a few customers have told us they took out some shelves and use it to store their vacuum cleaner!

Being lockable adds functionality that would appeal to many parents who want their homes to be kid safe or don’t want little hands ripping through their paperwork but also makes them really practical for co working spaces, boutique gyms or airbnbs.

4. Do you have any future plans for Mustard in terms of product/colour selection?
New to our range is our baskets which are designed to maximise the space inside the lockers and come as a set of three in our six colour ways. Next year the plan is to introduce a few limited edition colours and some new style lockers but I have to keep the details secret for now…

The new collection takes its inspiration from the latest interior trends and brings them outdoors, in a move designed to have Aussies wanting to lounge in their backyards all day. There’s something to suit every outdoor oasis – from a small urban courtyard to a coastal poolside retreat, or a sprawling backyard.

“Early Settler’s 2018/19 outdoor range is designed to tempt you outside, where you can reconnect with nature and enjoy your version of backyard bliss, whatever that might be,” says Early Settler furniture buyer, Monica Porter.

The stunning campaign for the new collection, “Back to Nature,” styled by in-demand Melbourne stylist, Heather Nette King, and photographed by renowned interiors specialist, Mike Baker, was shot almost exclusively in Byron Bay in a range of locations that show off the four key themes of the collection – natural, urban, coastal and French.

Highlight locations include a hinterland ranch belonging to the owners of Byron’s hippest guest house ‘The Atlantic’ and ‘Byron Bay Black’ – a luxe, new beach house in Byron’s so-called “Golden Grid”.

adore_home_blog_The North-High Res-82.jpg

Looking for a stylish, coastal holiday in Sydney? We’ve found a gorgeous two bedroom cottage on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Welcome to The North Beach House, quite possibly the best styled accommodation on Airbnb!

Photography The Palm Co

adore_home_blog_The North-High Res-7.jpg

If I’m honest I don’t come across a lot of beautifully styled Airbnbs – there seems to be a real gap in the market for accommodation that is both affordably priced and beautifully furnished and styled. At last I’ve come across The North Beach House – a newly opened two bedroom cottage located on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, and it is divine. You can see the attention to detail in each of the spaces – it’s very much a space that could easily feature in the pages of any interior design magazine (in fact you’ll see a little more in our Summer edition - stay tuned)!

Featuring beautiful light filled spaces, this cute cottage (complete with pink front door) is located just five minutes walk to both North Narrabeen beach and Narrabeen lake. Guests have access to the entire home, including front deck and garden. There’s even an outdoor shower under a beautiful frangipani tree for your use after a long day at the beach. Sounds heavenly. Oh and if you’re planning a long trip there is also a fully equipped laundry – you won’t get that at a hotel!

And with the additions of a fully equipped kitchen, smart tvs in both the lounge room and one bedroom, The North Beach House feels more like a home away from home. Book us in!

Bathroom Trend: Timber Vanities

Kyal and Kara’s Angourie vanity

Kyal and Kara’s Angourie vanity

The hottest trend in bathrooms has to be timber vanities. Bathrooms can often feel quite clinical – the timeless appeal and warmth of timber really helps to create a friendly, welcoming space. Here’s three companies that make beautiful handcrafted timber vanities.

1 KYAL AND KARA FOR
LOUGHLIN FURNITURE

blog_2_Kyal_and_Kara_Loughlin_Furniture_Portrait.jpg

The Super Ks (Kyal and Kara) never cease to inspire us – this time it’s their collaboration with Loughlin Furniture that has us swooning.

Photography: Ben Cole

For Kyal and Kara’s bathroom range they wanted to create something that was unique and timeless, paired with impeccable quality and craftmanship. Having worked with Rob Loughlin of Loughlin Furniture for most of their renovation projects, it was a no-brainer that Kyal and Kara teamed up with them to create two vanity designs Airlie and Angourie, along with matching Alura mirrors (all pictured).

The raw natural beauty of the American Oak will ensure your vanity is the hero of any bathroom. Other details we love – the bespoke timber finger pulls and shaker style end panels. Shop the range by clicking here.

2 ZUSTER FOR REECE

High end furniture label Zuster has teamed up with Reece to create their new Issy Halo range – and it does not disappoint. Striking and bold, this is the vanity for lovers of contemporary design.

Inspired by fashion and 3D movement of fabric pleats, the Issy Halo by Zuster furniture range is engineered to stand out – it’s certainly got our attention! We just adore the pleated timber panelling, soft close doors, Corian benchtop and matching round handles. Made from American Oak and available in a range of colours (we’re digging the Charcoal Oak pictured above – very moody), the suite has a thoroughly contemporary, chic feel. 3 RAW SUNSHINE COAST

RAW Sunshine Coast make beautiful handcrafted furniture, and now also vanities! Here’s a look at some of their beautiful vanity designs.

Photography: Venita Wilson Photography

Their whole aesthetic is based on understated beauty. Inspired by the simplicity and functionality of Scandinavian design, the clean lines of their Noosa vanity (pictured above and below) allow the timber to be the hero and deep drawers allow for ample storage. We also adore their Willow timber bathroom vanity (pictured very top) – with its traditional-meets-modern design and the modern curvaceous design of the North Shore bathroom vanity (pictured very bottom).

Each of their vanities are available in Blackbutt or American White Oak and made in Maroochydore by RAW Sunshine Coast’s expert team of furniture makers and joiners. They also can custom make something to suit your design needs. Shop the range by clicking here.

ART PRINTS ROUNDUP

Since launching our new Adore Shopping site, we’ve found the second most searched item is art prints. So today we’ve rounded up some gorgeous art prints to brighten your walls.

BLUE AND GREEN PRINTS

Who said blue and green should never be seen together? Mother nature’s perfect colour duo – greens and blues – are great for creating a calming effect. We could dive straight into this Earth 014 print by Stewart Leishman (pictured above) available from Barnaby Lane. There’s something so alluring about ocean prints.

Another photographer who captures the beauty of the sea  is Kara Rosenlund. Her prints are so beautiful – owning a couple of her prints in my own home, I can attest to their quality and vibrance of colour. Her Diver print pictured opposite was taken at Sydney’s infamous Bondi Icebergs, I just love how she’s captured that laidback Australian beach lifestyle in one single shot.

Urban Road are also a great source for beautiful art prints in a variety of styles. Their latest collaboration with Shaynna Blaze is so dreamy – there’s lots of great aerial photography in this collection – including their Field of Dreams print pictured below.

SUNSET COLOURS PRINTS

CLARE+NICOLSON+SUNRISE+PRINT.jpg

The hottest colour trend going around at the moment are warm colours – think sunset hues in pinks, corals, tangerines, and hints of dusty lilac. If you’re after a great affordably priced option try H&G Designs - their Cast and Sundance prints (pictured above) look great hanging together as a pair.

UK artist Clare Nicolson creates bold and graphic digital artworks that have a whimsical nature. Pictured opposite is her Sunrise print. Her range is also very affordably priced – however are only available in A4 and A3 size. These would work great as a small artwork styled on a shelf, or used as part of a larger gallery wall with a mix of artworks.

Barnaby Lane has recently become my go-to-source for photographic prints. Their carefully curated range includes renowned photographers such as Derek Swalwell, Stewart Leishman, Marija Ivkovic and Anna Thomas. Pictured below is Derek Swalwell’s Griffith Park 2 print available through Barnaby Lane. Loving those sunny LA vibes!

BLACK & WHITE PRINTS

Photography: Annette O'Brien  /  Styling: Alana Langan  /  Interior design: Paola Gredler

You can’t beat a black and white art print. Simple, classic, and a great option for monochromatic interiors – there’s a certain sophistication when it comes to black and white art works. Thankfully there’s no shortage of art prints out there, we live in an age where we are spoilt for choice with affordably priced prints.

Morning Surf print from The White Bungalow pictured above, is one of my favourite beach photographic prints. I love the styling of this piece too – sometimes an artwork doesn’t have to be hanging on the wall – this one works just as well leaning against the wall and positioned on a low sideboard.

Photography: Annette O'Brien  /  Styling: Alana Langan  /  Interior design: Michelle Hart, Bask Interiors

Another favourite of mine is Carla Fletcher’s Bliss limited edition print pictured above – how can you resist a cute, cuddly koala! I think this piece would also work well in a nursery – so super sweet.

Our new Entrepreneur edition is oozing with pretty interiors this issue. Available in early September in newsagents, we couldn’t wait to share a
sneak peek look inside now!

Our Entrepreneur edition features three modern work spaces to give you inspiration on how to set up your own dream home office. One of those office spaces is fashion blogger Missy Ulmer’s chic home office pictured above. I love the built-in shelving complete with rolling ladder, I’ll be adding this to my own personal pinboard for future house inspiration!

If a career in interiors is what you’re craving, you’ll find pearls of wisdom from the five interior design/stylist talents we’ve featured in this issue’s New Breed feature including founder of Archer Interiors, Aimee Tarulli (whose home is pictured below).

We’ve got three Spring-fresh home tours in this edition and they are some of the prettiest homes we’ve ever featured. I adore Nicola Greenaway’s light-filled haven (featured on our front cover) – it’s a perfect mix of contemporary and Scandi style. Overall the space just feels so bright and that’s thanks to those gorgeous white floors.

Erica Zuccala’s home is going to appeal to those who love contemporary interiors with a touch of tropical flavour. Her daughter Aniela's room pictured below, is both feminine and moody thanks to the striking wallpaper from Origin Wallpapers.

If a renovation is on the cards for your own home, you’ll love reading about Julia and Sasha’s recent renovation project – converting a tiny Edwardian home into a larger four bedroom home complete with a modern prefabricated extension.
